Romy Hübler

Romy Hübler is director of the Office of Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility at Towson University (MD). Hübler works with university students to develop their individual and collective civic agency in order to position them to co-create equitable, just, and civically engaged communities. She has developed and taught several interdisciplinary courses in which students have explored the relationships among communication styles, democratic values, and the civic health of communities; analyzed and made plans to overcome barriers to collective agency and action; and drawn lessons from the lives of successful agents of social, cultural, and structural change. Hübler serves as Towson’s representative for the American Democracy Project (ADP), Campus Compact, and Transform Mid-Atlantic. In 2020, Hübler was named an ADP Civic Fellow. She also received the Spirit of Democracy Award from ADP in 2022. Hübler earned her B.A. in modern languages and linguistics, M.A. in intercultural communication, and Ph.D. in language, literacy, and culture at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
